BIOGRAPHY
Samira Haruna Sanusi is a Nigerian writer and Sickle Cell awareness advocate. Samira is the President of the Samira Sanusi Sickle Cell Foundation (SSSCF), an Abuja based Non-profit organization dedicated to catering for Sickle Cell disease patients. Through this foundation, Samira, a sickle cell survivor herself, provides relief and assistance to sufferers of the condition because she realized not all of them could access the health care that saved her.
She is the author of two books: I WROTE THIS FOR YOU (2017) and S Is For Survivor (2014). I WROTE THIS FOR YOU is a collection of prose, poetry, and short essays. It is a journey through pain, hope, strength, self discovery, healing and overcoming. Her first book, S Is For Survivor, is a memoir about her personal experiences with Sickle Cell Disease, the 28 surgeries she underwent and the bone marrow transplant that cured her. It won the Marine Platform Prize for writing in Northern Nigeria in 2015 and the Nigerian Writers Awards ADVOCACY BOOK OF THE YEAR in 2017.
She lives in Abuja.
